This article covers how to use OneDrive on MacOS in the following ways:
- Add and use OneDrive on MacOS
- Add a SharePoint site library (Documents) to MacOS
- Designate Folders to be backed up to the OneDrive Cloud
- Enable AutoSave
I. Add and Use OneDrive on MacOS
1. Look for the OneDrive app on your laptop and open it
2. Enter your full UW email address
3. This will take you to the UW login page below:
4. Approve with Duo
5. Move through the guides/reminders
6. This pop-up will appear, click "Ok"
7. You can now see where OneDrive is located on your laptop in the Finder:
II. Add SharePoint Library to your OneDrive
1. Go to the Documents of the SharePoint you want to Sync and click "Sync":
2. Allow the website to open OneDrive
3. The OneDrive library will be added as another item under "Locations" in your finder.
III. Designate Folders to be backed up to the OneDrive Cloud
1. Click on the OneDrive Icon in the upper right-hand corner, then click on the Gear icon and finally click on Preferences
2. Click on Backup and then Manage Backup
3. You will be prompted to change your permissions in System Preferences
4. Enable OneDrive in the page that you are taken to.
5. Select the items/folders you want to be backed up to OneDrive and Click Start Backup
Example of items that are now on laptop, the first item selected used to have the cloud icon next to its name but no longer does as it was opened, which means it is accessible. The Desktop and Document Folders both don't have the cloud icon because they are always accessible.
IV. Enable AutoSave
1. If you are opening a file that isnt already in OneDrive, you have the option to enable autosave. In the image below you can see I have a local document saved to my desktop open. You can enable AutoSave by clicking on it in the top left hand corner of the Office Interface
2. This will cause a pop-up to appear to ask where you want to save the file and what you would like to name it. Currently you can only use AutoSave to save files to OneDrive, you cannot have AutoSave set to use your computer as the location:
3. Below you can see that the document is now in my OneDrive location:
