AI can enhance assignments and student's understanding, engagement, and performance. If you opt to use AI for your course assignments, we've compiled some resources that can be helpful in addressing the planning of AI use in your course assignments and what to consider when setting up an assignment that allows for use of AI.

Additional Teaching with AI Resources:

When instructing students to use AI in an assignment, we recommend using Microsoft Copilot which is provided to all UW faculty, staff, and students as part of our Microsoft Enterprise Services. This UW Microsoft Copilot Resource gives an overview of Microsoft Copilot along with an explanation about data protection. This resource also gives directions on how to access Microsoft Copilot along with additional information.

Example Directions:

To generate ideas using AI, you can use Microsoft Copilot. Microsoft Copilot with commercial data protection (formerly Bing Chat Enterprise) is enabled for UW students. To access, please Sign In with your UWNetID.

You can verify that you are using Copilot with commercial data protection by:

  • The presence of a green “Protected” icon in the upper right corner of the screen
  • The presence of the text “Your personal and company data are protected” above the chat window
